Position Overview

We are seeking a Fire Inspector to support the City of Lynnwood's Development Services Department. This role provides fire plan review and field inspection services for residential, commercial, and public building projects, ensuring compliance with the Lynnwood Municipal Code, International Fire Code (IFC), and Washington State fire laws.

The ideal candidate is an experienced fire code professional with strong analytical skills and a commitment to public safety. This position requires daily interaction with developers, contractors, engineers, and the public.

This is a non-personal services contract position. The contractor employee reports directly to the Prime Contractor for all HR, disciplinary, and administrative matters, while receiving work direction from City of Lynnwood management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform fire plan reviews for residential, commercial, and public building projects
  • Review fire protection drawings and calculations for compliance with IFC and Washington State Fire Code
  • Approve or disapprove plans, alterations, and changes; document decisions
  • Conduct field inspections for sprinkler systems, fire alarms, standpipes, and emergency egress
  • Issue notices of violation and orders; document code violations
  • Communicate effectively with the public, developers, contractors, and agencies
  • Monitor, track, and report on development status using SmartGov and Bluebeam

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering or Fire Science preferred
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in fire inspection, fire plan review, or fire protection engineering
  • ICC Fire Inspector certification required
  • NICET certification in Fire Protection Engineering Technology preferred
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License
  • Expert knowledge of IFC, Washington State Fire Code (WAC 51-54), and NFPA standards
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new software
  • Proficient in written and verbal English
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills

Schedule & Work Conditions

  • Hours: Typically 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday
  • Location: Lynnwood City Hall, 19100 44th Ave W, Lynnwood, WA 98036
  • Federal holidays off

Security Requirements

  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Must wear government-issued identification badge at all times
  • Must complete City-required cybersecurity awareness training

Additional Requirements

  • Must maintain valid Washington State automobile insurance if using a vehicle on City business
